Joseph Banks

Joseph Banks began studying astrology in 1968. He is a full time professional. He currently resides with his wife, children, dog, and too many cats under a big mossy rock in the depth of Madison County, N C

He brings his unique variety of real life experience and a broad education into his astrological practice. The work on personal and soul evolution over many lifetimes engages his attention.

Joseph was born in Asheville, N.C. He lost both parents at the age of four and was raised in a county home. At seventeen, he ran away to become a guitar packing, hitchhiking member of the Woodstock Generation.

He “volunteered” for overseas duty during the later Viet Nam era. Traveling widely as a spiritual seeker through the ancient sites on three of the five continents he explored the Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, Taoist, Pagan, European Shamanic, and Zen philosophies.

Returning home to the Asheville area, he graduated with the first Oriental Philosophy degree ever tendered by the University of NC at Asheville in May of 1981. His focus was on the global similarities of what philosophers call the Unitive Mystical Experience.

Coining the phrase “Bioregional Shamanism,” his studies in various natural and metaphysical sciences and traditions continues unabated. He published his first poems at the age of twelve and has always been a rather prolific, if not notorious, wordsmith; editing and publishing several counter-cultural and literary “rags” in his time.

Finding Gemini

Gemini my Gemini, wherefore art thou Gemini?
I’m hither & thither and near and far
I must pick up the kids and fix the car
Milk the garden and weed the cow
Mend the computer though I don’t know how
Too much data; Oh my, what a mess.
I’ll just set up another Email address
Got to pay the laundry and wash the bills.
Climb the ocean and sail the hills
Oh! My gosh! There’s so much to be done
That I’m inside and out and all turned around
There are groceries to write and a letter to get
Don’t bother me now for I’m not finished yet
