Gemini
The signs of the zodiac work as a process. In Aries, the first sign, and in Taurus the second, we have the building and animating of the physical body. In the next two signs, Gemini and Cancer, we have the development of the mental and emotional aspects of the individual. Gemini represents the mental part, what may be called the “ratio intellectus.” This air sign is probably the most completely mutable of all the signs. There are three qualities to the signs of the zodiac. That would be the Fixed or solid stable signs, the Cardinal signs which are directed towards action, towards starting things and getting things done; and then there are the Mutable signs, which are concerned with motion and change and the process of transformation.
The Big Picture
June begins with a partial Solar Eclipse on the first day of the month. Solar Eclipses always happen at the time of the New Moon. This is the sort of eclipse at which it is very dangerous to look. I’ve heard the old smoked glass trick we used forty years ago is not really totally safe. There are safeguards you can take and they can be easily googled on the internet. The Sun will be in the western sky at 11 degrees of Gemini at 5:00 PM EDT.
It is not easy to predict the nature of eclipses for individuals unless you have their birth chart in front of you for a reference. On a global scale, this eclipse represents transformation through carefully applied discipline. There may be some dubious fiasco in the news involving a major sports or entertainment event , perhaps centered on one person. The facts are likely to be inaccurate . Global finances may be highly unstable now.
Mercury, the fleet footed messenger of the Gods, is moving very fast this month, entering its home sign of Gemini on June second. An increase in trade and a scramble for resources is indicated. Individually, we will be very busy. Here we find another indication of a volatile global economy. Positive gains in personal business are may be obtained by acting quickly to opportunities. But it may be best to hold off until the fifth day of the month.
I don’t understand much about the details of politics and financial markets, mostly because they seem to come together in a dirty little box I’d rather not open. However, I have a feeling the situation in the Middle East, overall, will get worse before it gets better. I’ve had “flashback” scenes of ground to ground rockets being fired with the state of Israel somehow coming into the picture. It is likely these are the result of my own fear of war. I will not elaborate because I don’t wish to be a storm crow.
On June third, Mercury squares Neptune. Early astrologers tended to describe things rather pompously and this was called “ the mark of the thief.” Current astrological wisdom says this is not a good time to settle business affairs. Also, watch out for deceit or even theft. This transit passes quickly. Communications may get scrambled, so be clearheaded and precise.
Jupiter enters Taurus on the fourth of June. Jupiter is a complex social planet. It is related to your ability to find meaning in life. It is also generally a very beneficial influence, affording a more prosperous and happy life. This will affect everyone to some degree, but the signs of Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn and Scorpio will benefit the most, in descending order as listed above. The only down side to this transit is that it may encourage a sense of easy lassitude, but only if you are already predisposed to being a bit lazy. Make a go of it and see yourself gaining in joy and prosperity. Good things will happen.
Venus strolls lightly into Gemini on the ninth day of the month. Our Lady of love, sensuality, beauty and pleasure spends about a month in each sign. Venus also brings prosperity to those She touches. If you are a Gemini, your Sun will be “strobed” by Venus this month, indicating the possibility of love coming into your life, perhaps on the very day Venus conjuncts your Sun. If you seek love, make yourself available and believe you deserve love and sexual pleasure. Go to where the kinds of people you like tend to congregate. If you already have an intimate relationship, use this time to make it even better. If you simply want more friendship, if you are lonely, imagine yourself with new friends and get out there. Follow the bluebird. Libra and Aquarius will experience similar effects.
Eclipses usually come in Pairs. There will be a total Lunar Eclipse on June 15th at 4:14 PM EDT With the Moon at 24 degrees of Sagittarius and the Sun In the complementary degree of Gemini. Coinciding with the Full Moon, the eclipse will represent a time of culmination. Some personal success in all endeavors is likely. There will be a theme of reaching out into the great unknown to find a sense of purpose. Religious beliefs of all sorts will be accentuated. Fundamentalists will be more determined than ever that they have the true Truth. As a result, there may be more heated arguments in the unstable Middle East between different sects and religions. Talk of a “holy war” (isn’t that an oxymoron?) may reach a fever pitch. Folks living in glass houses may throw stones at each other, with the expected effect.
The Summer Solstice occurs as the Sun crosses into Cancer on June 21st at 1:17 PM EDT.
On this longest and brightest of days people all over our little blue green planet will be celebrating with joy and vigor. For tens of thousands of years, throughout the large majority of cultures, this day has been a time to share goodwill and laughter. Before the relatively recent dominance of patriarchal monotheistic religions the Summer Solstice was probably the most celebrated day on earth.
The nourishing breast of Gaia swells in the ripening squash and melons and raspberries and strawberries and grains and on what wonders her green blood provides. The round belly of summer births us each anew to the warm dewy dawns of June.
Here is the Life and here is the Meaning. Here the sweet smell of clover hay with the whistle of ground hogs perching erect, while the lark explodes singing from the willow thicket to the Sun. Here is the reason I came to walk this sweet earth one more time. Here is the Grace and the good wind and the speckled trout leaping as diamonds into the light from the dark shady pools. Here is the singing of the body lambent from creation’s forge. Seeker, you need search no more. It is here, under your feet.
Love that green rich plump belly of High Summer bearing autumn’s child! Love those white oaks and maples that stand shining. Love the white berry blossom and the black black crow. Get intoxicated sucking into your lungs the rich syrup of this Blue Ridge. We swim in the fertile sea of one of the worlds only remaining temperate cloud forests! OK, I’ll calm down now. Just kicking up my cloven hooves a bit.
We could all benefit by looking into the traditional meanings of the Solstice through human history. The symbolism is rich with ideas of joy and sharing, nourishment and peaceful co-operation. Hope overcomes fear, light guides us through the darkness, and food for the coming year is growing in the fields. Winter’s harsh grip is as far away as it ever gets.
On June 22nd, Mars squares off with Neptune.
"Poor, poor pitiful me. All these pretty young women won't let me be.
I laid my head on the railroad tracks, waitin' on the Double EE.
But the train don't run by here no more.
Poor, poor pitiful me!"..........Warren Zevon
This is usually a difficult transit. Mars and Neptune don't easily get along together. Mars likes to yell and run with scissors while Neptune wants to lounge in a dark corner and softly recite mystical love poetry; or perhaps hum one of the etudes of Chopin. The function and nature of Mars is to give us a healthy ego and to supply the desire and ambition to go after whatever our ego wants, even to fight for it if need be. Neptune is a soul related function. We are pulled by a cosmic tide towards any experience which transcends our mundane level of experience. Our highest ideals sail into view. The square aspect indicates it is time for corrective action due to a progressing imbalance between the psychodynamic properties of the two planets.
Someone may appeal to our ideals, offering a deal that seems to good to be true. Don't be taken in. It probably is. Watch out for spiritual con artists also. We frequently find disappointment in romance as we see others for what they truly are. Our veils of self delusion are ripped open. Someone may tempt you into a course of action which is not entirely honest. Don't go. Don't act in service of your own ego today. Do something for others. Don't close deals or sign the papers.
Your immune system may be weak now. Daydream, write poetry, meditate, escape into harmless recreational drugs or alcohol. Just don't go public. In three days the confusion will pass.
In the final three days of June Sol opposes Pluto. On a personal level, there is a big opportunity for transformation here. However, there is also a good chance of ego conflicts and power plays. Pluto is a transpersonal planet and often Pluto transits coincide with global conditions of a difficult nature. Potential flashpoints around the globe may erupt into open conflict. There is a slight possibility of earthquakes and tsunamis and a probability of severe weather as hurricane and tornado season hit’s the North American continent. The key to personal growth now involves a redefinition of your personality through identifying with a greater good. There IS a potential for peace, but only if world leaders act wisely.
